Job summary

APRA is seeking a Head of Financial System Risk to lead a team delivering system-wide analysis of vulnerabilities and risks in Australia’s financial system, shaping strategic regulatory responses.

You will work with the Cross-Industry Risk Division and frontline supervisors to strengthen resilience, build a high-performing team, and communicate insights to APRA executives for informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of financial stability and the economy.
• Strong leadership experience.
• Ability to distill complex information and identify interconnections.

Responsibilities

• Lead identification, assessment and monitoring of vulnerabilities in the financial system.
• Oversee frameworks to monitor the operating environment and identify vulnerabilities.
• Identify changes in skills and capabilities needed for analysis.
• Ensure clear communication in key internal reports (e.g., System Risk Outlook).
• Provide trusted analysis to inform supervisory and regulatory responses.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of analysts and managers.
• Foster inclusive leadership and an open culture across the division.
• Build effective relationships with APRA areas, frontline supervisors and executives.
• Communicate the team’s purpose under APRA’s strategy to stakeholders.
• Support the GM in leading the System Risk Branch and participate in the division's leadership team.
