Job summary

AP Bakery, a Sydney-based wholesale and retail bakery, seeks a hands-on finance leader to run the full function and partner with Owners on growth. You will tidy processes, improve systems and move finance from record-keeping to business-decision support across multiple stores.

You will own month-end, manage cash flow, oversee payroll for ~200 staff and drive reporting by channel and store, while developing a small finance team.

Qualifications

• CA/CPA or equivalent required.
• Experience leading full finance function in a small to mid-sized business.
• Hands-on in approach with strong costing and margins.

Job description

AP Bakery is seeking a hands-on, commercially minded finance leader to work closely with the Owners. You will run the full finance function day to day while helping the business plan for growth. This is a roll‑up‑the‑sleeves role where you will tidy up areas that need attention, improve systems and reporting, and move finance from record‑keeping to a function that helps managers make better decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Own month end, management accounts and reporting by channel (retail and wholesale) and by store
• Manage cash flow, working capital, budgets and forecasts
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control for wholesale customers
• Oversee payroll for close to 200 staff, including award compliance, super and leave
• Track production costs, ingredient pricing, wastage and labour at the Marrickville bakery, and performance across stores
• Improve finance processes, systems and reporting using technology and automation
• Manage BAS, GST, PAYG, payroll tax and other compliance, and relationships with the bank, external accountants and the ATO
• Lead and develop a small finance and admin team, and help site managers understand their numbers
• Act as a trusted adviser to the Owners on pricing, margins, growth and investment

About you

• CA, CPA or equivalent
• CFO, Financial Controller or Finance Manager background in a small to mid-sized business
• Hands‑on in approach, with experience owning the full finance function
• Strong costing and margin experience in a production environment
• Good working knowledge of payroll, Australian awards and tax compliance
• Experience with cloud accounting software and a forward‑thinking approach to systems and automation
• Confident with integrated systems: point of sale, stock, accounting and payroll
• A clear communicator who can explain numbers to owners, managers and bakers alike
• Experience in food manufacturing, hospitality, retail, wholesale or FMCG highly regarded
