Job summary

Alcoa of Australia Ltd. is seeking a Chemical Services Manager at the Wagerup Refinery to oversee routine and project chemical services, reporting to the Technical Manager.

You will lead and develop the Laboratory team to safely and efficiently deliver all aspects of laboratory operations. You will have accountability for SGA product quality and provide input into the Month End Inventory Process, while driving cross-site standardisation of methods and analytical capabilities.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
• Experience in alumina plant operation.
• Leadership experience in Safety, production, projects, costs and training.
• Track record of major technical work and strong technical ability.
• Experience in production improvement and operating efficiency.
• Ability to lead a technical team on major plant projects and day-to-day optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead Laboratory team to safely and efficiently deliver operations.
• Accountable for SGA product quality from Wagerup.
• Provide input into Month End Inventory Process.
• Drive analytical service improvements and cross-site standardization.
• Conduct lab/refinery based investigations and improvements.
• Apply statistical design and evaluation techniques.
• Provide deep technical insight into Bayer process chemistry.

About the Role

Our Wagerup Refinery has an open vacancy for a Chemical Services Manager working on a Monday to Friday roster.

As the Chemical Services Manager you will be accountable to the Technical Manager for the provision of routine and project chemical services and Bayer process expertise for the Laboratory, Refinery & Mining & Marketing groups.

You will lead and develop the Laboratory team to safely and efficiently deliver all aspects of laboratory operations.

You will have specific accountability for SGA product quality from Wagerup Refinery and have a working knowledge and provide technical input into the Month End Inventory Process.

Other duties include Contribution in improving analytical services and cross-site (WAO and Global) standardisation of methods Conducts Laboratory and Refinery based investigative and improvement projects with Technical, CoE and Operational personnel.

Adept at Statistical Experimental Design and Evaluation.

Troubleshooting and guidance to the Laboratory team and Technical department.

Provides deep technical insight into Bayer process chemistry and laboratory analytical processes.

What you can bring to the role

• Tertiary qualification and experience in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and alumina plant operation.
• Leadership experience in Safety, production, projects, costs and training.
• Background of achievement in areas of major technical work and above average technical ability and experience.
• Experience in production improvement and operating efficiency.
• Capable to lead a team of technical people on a major plant project, and at the same time take a leading role in the day-to-day optimization of plant performance.
