Job summary

Childs Play Early Learning Centre in Point Cook VIC is seeking a dedicated Chef Assistant / Educator to split time between our kitchen and classrooms. You will help prepare nutritious meals, manage allergies, and ensure food safety while supporting children’s routines and learning under EYLF.

The role involves covering kitchen duties during leave and contributing to a friendly, collaborative team dedicated to high-quality care for young children.

Qualifications

• ACECQA-approved Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or higher.
• Current Working With Children Check.
• HLTAID012 First Aid (CPR, anaphylaxis, asthma).
• Food Safety Handler SITXFSA005 or equivalent.
• Experience cooking for groups in childcare or similar.
• Sound allergen management and safe food handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist Chef with nutritious meals, morning/afternoon tea and lunch.
• Manage allergies, intolerances and dietary needs per child plans.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and temperature records.
• Assist with stock rotation, ordering, cleaning schedules and kitchen compliance.
• Cover kitchen duties when Chef is on leave; support educators during meals and busy periods.
• Support children’s routines, play and learning under EYLF.

At Childs Play, children are at the centre of everything we do. Our nutritious, freshly prepared menus are part of how we care for our children and families each day.

About the role

This dual role splits your time between our kitchen and our rooms, depending on what the service needs on the day.

Key responsibilities

Help our Chef prepare and serve nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea in line with our menu and dietary guidelines.

Manage allergies, intolerances and cultural or religious dietary needs, using each child's medical management and risk minimisation plans.

Keep food safety, hygiene and temperature records accurate and up to date.

Help with stock rotation, ordering, cleaning schedules and kitchen compliance.

Cover the kitchen when the Chef is on leave (higher duties).

Work as an educator in the rooms during meal times, educator breaks and busy periods, and when needed to meet ratios.

Support children's routines, play and learning under our approved learning framework (EYLF).

Encourage healthy eating habits and positive meal-time experiences.

Follow our child safe, supervision and health and safety policies at all times.

About you

An ACECQA-approved Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or higher (or actively working towards one).

A current Working With Children Check.

Current HLTAID012 First Aid, including CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma management.

A Food Safety Handler certificate (SITXFSA005 or equivalent).

Experience cooking for groups, ideally in a childcare, school or aged care setting.

A sound understanding of allergen management and safe food handling.

Flexibility, reliability and a real love of working with children.

Food Safety Supervisor certificate.

Familiarity with National Quality Standard Quality Area 2 (Children's Health and Safety).
