Job summary

Mr L’S Bar & Restaurant | South Yarra is seeking a talented Chef to join our busy kitchen team on a full-time basis. You will work across day-to-day food production, functions and menu development, delivering Mediterranean dishes with consistency.

You will plan menus, monitor quality and lead with management and front-of-house collaboration to uphold high culinary standards while maintaining food safety and team cohesion. The role is based at 23–25 Toorak Road, South Yarra VIC.

Qualifications

• Certificate III and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery completed.
• Diploma of Hospitality Management completed or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Plan menus, estimate costs and order supplies.
• Monitor dish quality from prep to presentation.
• Discuss preparation issues with managers and staff.
• Demonstrate techniques and advise on procedures.
• Prepare food for à la carte service and functions.
• Explain and enforce food hygiene and safety regulations.
• Select and train kitchen staff as needed.
• Freeze and preserve foods when required.

Job description

Mr L's, a Mediterranean-inspired bar and restaurant at 23–25 Toorak Road, South Yarra VIC 3141, is looking for a talented Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. With an à la carte menu, small plates, lunch specials and three event spaces for private functions, our kitchen is busy, varied and creative.

About the role

You will work across day-to-day food production, functions and menu development, working closely with management and front-of-house staff to deliver consistent, high-quality Mediterranean dishes.

Key responsibilities

• Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies
• Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
• Discussing food preparation issues with managers, dietitians, and kitchen and waiting staff
• Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures
• Preparing and cooking food for à la carte service and functions
• Explaining and enforcing food hygiene and safety regulations
• Selecting and training kitchen staff where required
• Freezing and preserving foods where required

Requirements

• Certificate III and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
• Diploma of Hospitality Management
• Minimum 1 year of experience working as a Chef, gained after completing your qualifications
• Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Flexibility to work a roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays

Salary and conditions

• $80,000 to $82,000 per annum plus superannuation
• Full-time, ongoing position
• Location: 23–25 Toorak Road, South Yarra VIC 3141
