Staff Specialist – Cardiologist
Electrophysiology & General Cardiology | Public Health Service | Tasmania
Permanent Full-Time | $216,300 – $296,640 + Incentives & Allowances

We are recruiting for a leading tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania that is seeking a dedicated Staff Specialist – Cardiologist with expertise in electrophysiology to join their well-established Cardiology Department. This position offers an excellent mix of clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities in one of Australia’s most scenic and lifestyle-friendly regions.

The Role:

As a Consultant Cardiologist, you will contribute to the general clinical workload of the department and play a key leadership role in the delivery of electrophysiology services. You will work within a highly integrated team that includes a Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Ward, Cardiac Catheter Lab, and Non-Invasive Testing Unit. Services also extend statewide and include telehealth where appropriate.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing inpatient and outpatient cardiology services with a focus on heart rhythm disorders
  • Leading weekly case discussions for complex device implantation and ablation
  • Supporting nurse-led clinics in electrophysiology and rhythm management
  • Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
  • Contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance, and ongoing service development
  • Actively participating in research and maintaining a strong academic presence
Key Requirements:
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Cardiology
  • Sub-specialisation in electrophysiology and cardiac devices strongly preferred
  • Current or eligible Specialist Registration with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership in tertiary or large regional hospital settings
  • Commitment to evidence-based care, teaching, and continuous improvement
Remuneration & Benefits:
  • Base Salary: $216,300 – $296,640 per annum (dependent on experience and seniority)
  • Access to senior specialist rates (up to $310,389) if eligible
  • Allowances:
    • CPD Allowance: $16,974 p.a. (pro rata)
    • On-call allowance and potential earnings through the Private Patient Scheme
    • Motor vehicle allowance or fully maintained vehicle option
    • Salary packaging and Fitness Passport (access to 40+ gyms across Tasmania)
    • Relocation assistance and accommodation support for interstate or overseas doctors
    • Visa sponsorship available for eligible international candidates
