Legal Aid NSW is seeking a Capability and Performance Lead based in Central Sydney. You will own an assigned capability domain across learning, leadership, performance or talent, shaping frameworks and program cycles, and delivering practical content and pathways.
You will partner with Senior People Partners to ensure enterprise frameworks are applied consistently across portfolios, regions and workforce groups.
We stand beside people when they need it most. At Legal Aid NSW, fairness isn’t just a legal principle, it shapes everything we do - our culture, our services, our workplace and our decisions. Since 1979, Legal Aid NSW has provided legal advice, support and representation in criminal, family and civil law, helping people across NSW navigate hardship and complex legal issues. Our work is challenging, but deeply meaningful. In partnerships with LawAccess NSW, Community Legal Centres and the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT, we are located throughout the state including our Central Sydney office, 25 regional offices, and satellite and outreach offices. Our People & Culture function plays an important role in making sure those people can access practical, reliable and responsive support when they need it. We are modernising People & Culture Legal Aid NSW is modernising how People & Culture works. We are building a more connected and responsive service model, using better technology, clearer service pathways and stronger insights to make HR simpler, more consistent and easier to access for employees and leaders.
As a Capability and Performance Lead, you will take ownership of a capability domain across learning, leadership, performance or talent. That means end‑to‑end ownership. You will shape frameworks and program cycles, design practical content and learning pathways, facilitate capability uplift and evaluate whether the work is making a difference. You will work closely with Senior People Partners and leaders, so enterprise approaches are consistent, but still practical for different portfolios, regions and workforce groups. The work will combine design, facilitation, advice and delivery. You may be developing a leadership pathway, refreshing a performance tool, facilitating a manager session, reviewing evaluation data, coordinating specialist input or working with a Senior People Partner to respond to a portfolio capability need. You will have autonomy within your domain and will be expected to keep the work practical, scalable and connected to organisational priorities.
You like turning broad organisational priorities into practical tools, experiences and programs that leaders and employees can actually use. You are likely someone who:

We welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with visible and invisible disability, culturally diverse communities, and LGBTQI+ communities so you can connect and flourish at every stage of career. You will be part of a diverse and inclusive organisation, working alongside like-minded and values driven people dedicated to justice, community impact, and delivering exceptional support and service through cross collaboration.
