Job summary
Camden Council is seeking an experienced Canopy and Restoration Officer to protect, enhance and grow Camden's urban forest. The role involves leading urban canopy, revegetation and ecological restoration initiatives across diverse sites within the LGA.
You will work with internal teams, external contractors and community groups to deliver biodiversity and climate resilience projects, coordinating governance, reporting and timelines while supporting a healthy, liveable environment for residents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Arboriculture or related discipline
- Demonstrated knowledge of urban forestry, revegetation, biodiversity conservation, bushland restoration and natural area management principles
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating urban forest planting, vegetation restoration, revegetation or other environmental management projects
- Demonstrated experience using GIS applications and other environmental, asset management or spatial data systems
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and contribute effectively to a multidisciplinary team
Responsibilities
- Protect, enhance and grow Camden's urban forest while delivering environmental outcomes for the community
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, contractors and community groups
- Coordinate urban canopy, revegetation and ecological restoration projects across multiple sites
- Oversee project scheduling, budgets and reporting to ensure timely delivery

SALARY: $94,923 - 108,750 p.a + Super + Leaseback Vehicle
Work Type:Temporary Full Time up to 2 years

Working across a diverse range of urban canopy, revegetationand ecological restoration projects, you will help increase tree canopy cover,restore native vegetation, enhance biodiversity and support Council's responseto climate change. Bachelor’s degree along with relevant experience in Urban Forestry, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Arboriculture or related discipline, and demonstrated equivalent experience
Demonstrated knowledge of urban forestry, revegetation, biodiversity conservation, bushland restoration and natural area management principles
Demonstrated experience in the developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating urban forest planting, vegetation restoration, revegetation or other environmental management projects
Demonstrated experience using GIS applications and other environmental, asset management or spatial data systems
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and contribute effectively to a multidisciplinary team
Proven organisational and project management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects while balancing priorities and deadlines
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with sound judgement in making informed recommendations
Current Class C Drivers Licence
Experience working in local government
Experience administering environmental or restoration grant-funded projects
Knowledge of native vegetation communities and flora species occurring within the Camden LGA and broader Cumberland Plain
