Job summary

University of Queensland is seeking a dedicated Gardener/Groundsperson at the St Lucia Campus. The role involves maintaining gardens, lawns and surrounding areas to a consistently high standard, including mowing, edging, pruning and irrigation work.

You will manage a designated patch and contribute to the campus’s presentation daily. The position requires Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent, a current QLD Driver Licence, and a chemical application licence.

Qualifications

• Qualifications and training equivalent to a Certificate III in Horticulture.
• A current open Queensland Driver Licence.
• A current commercial operator’s licence for chemical application, with knowledge of equipment calibration and safe chemical use.
• Substantial experience in maintenance gardening, with interest in plant identification and landscape presentation.
• Practical experience maintaining, fault-finding and repairing grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work safely with minimal supervision while contributing to a team.
• Strong communication skills with students, staff, contractors and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Maintain gardens, lawns, pathways and surrounding areas to a high standard through mowing, edging, weeding, fertilising, watering and general grounds care.
• Repair turf, aerate and top dress lawns, control pests, refurbish gardens and landscape around new/existing buildings.
• Install, replace and repair irrigation components, drainage, mulch and landscape infrastructure.
• Maintain a safe work environment by caring for equipment, completing records and following procedures.
