Job summary

The University of Queensland is seeking a Grounds Technician to maintain the campus gardens and lawns across 100 hectares at St Lucia. You’ll perform mowing, edging, irrigation work and landscape maintenance in a hands-on outdoor role within a supportive team, delivering high-quality outdoor spaces daily.

Qualifications include Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent, a current Queensland Driver Licence, and substantial maintenance gardening experience with safe chemical handling.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Horticulture or equivalent.
• A current open Queensland Driver Licence.
• A current commercial operator’s licence for chemical application.
• Substantial experience in maintenance gardening and landscape presentation.
• Practical experience maintaining grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work safely with minimal supervision in a team.
• Strong communication skills with students, staff, contractors and visitors.
• Good judgement and professional conduct in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain gardens, lawns, pathways and surrounding areas to a high standard.
• Restore and enhance outdoor spaces via turf repairs, lawn care and landscaping around buildings.
• Install, replace and repair irrigation components and other landscape infrastructure.
• Maintain a safe work environment and follow safe operating procedures.
