Job summary

Precruitment is seeking a Café Assistant to support both kitchen prep and front-of-house service in a Cairns cafe. You will take orders, handle POS, and serve a range of beverages and foods while maintaining high hygiene standards.

Ideal candidates have barista experience, strong communication, and the flexibility to start immediately for a full-time contract. Visa eligibility for Australia is required, with certificates for food handling as a minimum.

About the Opportunity

A Café Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of a cafe. We are looking for an experienced food and beverage professional who is versatile enough to assist in food preparation in the kitchen but who is also capable of serving customers over the front counter. In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Taking orders, operating cash register and POS Station.
• Service of hot and cold beverages and food items.
• Preparing and serving coffee, tea, and other beverages.
• Operating espresso machines and ensuring quality drinks.
• Supporting all aspects of food preparation, quality control and food display.
• Ensuring adequate stock levels of supplies and consumables for Café area and stock rotation.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene within the Café and all areas pertaining to the Café ensuring food handling and health and safety guidelines are met.
• Remove food scraps, empty and clean Café bins, and wash, dry and store all crockery and utensils in order to provide a safe and hygienic work environment.
• Strip, clean, reassemble and maintain all food preparation and cooking appliances.
• Ensure day to day activities align with business operation as directed by your supervisor.

About You

• Must be able to work Full Time hours.
• Previous experience as a Barista would be highly regarded.
• A Visa that is valid for the next 12 months.
• All certificates and tickets required for food preparation and service.
• Can start IMMEDIATELY and stay for the entire contract and understand that there is no work during school holidays.
• Strong team player and fantastic communication skills.
