Job summary

Nicom Interiors Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Cabinetmaker to plan, fabricate and install cabinetry for residential and commercial projects. You will read technical drawings, measure and cut timber, assemble furniture and apply finishes to achieve high quality results.

Joinery experience in a fast-paced environment is preferred; familiarity with WHS standards and building codes is advantageous. This permanent role offers full-time hours and Sydney-based work.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Cabinet Making & Technology or AQF Level III-equivalent is required.
• Minimum 1–2 years of cabinetmaking/joinery experience.
• Proficient in operating woodworking machinery and hand tools.
• Desirable knowledge of Australian building codes and WHS requirements; Australian driver’s licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings to plan cabinet-making and joinery projects.
• Measure, mark, cut, shape and join timber and board materials using tools and machinery.
• Assemble and install cabinets, benchtops, wardrobes, shelving and fitted furniture.
• Select timber, boards and hardware to meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Apply surface finishes (sanding, staining, painting, varnishing, lacquering) to achieve required aesthetics and durability.
• Inspect and repair damaged cabinetry and joinery; replace defective components as needed.
• Maintain woodworking equipment and tools in safe working condition per WHS requirements.
• Coordinate with site supervisors, builders and interior designers for timely delivery and accurate installation.

Main Duties

• 1. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and client specifications to plan and execute cabinet-making and joinery projects.
• 2. Measure, mark, cut, shape and join timber, board materials and other components using hand tools and woodworking machinery.
• 3. Assemble and install cabinets, benchtops, wardrobes, shelving and fitted furniture in residential and commercial settings.
• 4. Select appropriate timber, composite board materials and hardware to meet project specifications and quality standards.
• 5. Apply surface finishes including sanding, staining, painting, varnishing and lacquering to achieve required aesthetic and durability results.
• 6. Inspect and repair damaged or worn cabinetry and joinery, replacing defective components as required.
• 7. Maintain woodworking equipment and tools in safe working condition in accordance with WHS requirements.
• 8. Coordinate with site supervisors, builders and interior designers to ensure timely delivery and accurate installation of cabinetry.

Minimum Skills & Experience

• Qualifications: Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Technology, Certificate III in Carpentry, or equivalent trade qualification at AQF Level III required.
• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a Cabinetmaker or in a similar trades/joinery role.
• Skills: Proficiency in operating woodworking machinery; strong attention to detail; ability to read technical drawings and plans.
• Knowledge of Australian building codes and WHS requirements desirable.
• Australian driver's licence desirable.
