Job summary

Local Government Authority in Queensland is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join the Technology team. You will partner with business stakeholders, gather requirements and document current and future processes to enable improved IT systems.

You’ll develop functional and technical specifications, support testing and user adoption, and help translate complex technical information into clear business language across a multi-disciplinary environment.

Qualifications

  • ≥5 years in the industry, including ≥3 years in a Business Analyst role.
  • Experience in a diverse, multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Qualifications in IT/Business Systems or related discipline or substantial industry experience.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, process analysis, system documentation and functional specifications.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to educate, coach and influence stakeholders and build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills in complex tech environments.
  • Ability to translate technical information into clear, audience-appropriate communication.
  • Experience supporting testing, user acceptance and system implementation.
  • ITIL/Service Management and PM experience highly regarded.

Job description

Our client, a leading Local Government Authority, is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join their Technology team.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator ITS Partnering, the Business Analyst will act as a trusted partner to business stakeholders, supporting projects and operational teams across Council.

You’ll be responsible for gathering and analysing business requirements, documenting current and future state processes, developing functional and technical specifications, and supporting testing, implementation and user adoption.

The role will suit a Business Analyst who enjoys working closely with people, can translate technical information into clear business language and is comfortable operating across a complex, multi-disciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand business problems, requirements and opportunities.
  • Represent current and future business requirements in the design and delivery of new and enhanced business and IT systems.

About You
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant industry experience, including at least 3 years in a similar Business Analyst position.
  • Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within a diverse, multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Systems, Information Technology or a related discipline, and/or substantial relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with business requirements gathering, process analysis, system documentation and functional specifications.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • The ability to educate, coach and influence stakeholders and build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, particularly within complex technology environments.
  • The ability to interpret technical information and translate it into clear, audience-appropriate communication.
  • Experience supporting testing, user acceptance and system implementation.
  • Formal qualifications or experience in ITIL/Service Management and Project Management will be highly regarded.
  • A strong understanding of emerging technology and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
