Tech, Digital & Data @ Ampol

Technology, Digital and Data at Ampol are dedicated to empowering our business through technology-enabled differentiation, strengthening our foundations to build sustainable value for the future. Our team thrives on the challenge of innovation—dreaming up big ideas, questioning the norm, and tackling complex problems. Together, we are shaping a future that not only meets the needs of today but anticipates the demands of tomorrow.

Our approach is anchored in data-driven decision-making and advanced technology integration, allowing us to create seamless and personalized customer experiences that truly resonate. By prioritizing value-based decisions and outcomes, we ensure that TDD drives meaningful impact and measurable outcomes for the Ampol Group, leaving a lasting impact on our business and our customers.

About the role

The Business Analysis Practice Lead provides centralised leadership for the BA community across TDD, setting standards and driving capability uplift to ensure business needs are consistently translated into clear, high-quality requirements and solution definitions. This role coaches and develops practitioners, lifts requirements quality across all delivery, and ensures BAs can effectively translate business demand into actionable scope as TDD transitions to a platform model, aiming to reduce scope creep. The role also supports BA career development and retention through structured pathways, mentoring, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain BA standards, templates, and frameworks, ensuring consistency in requirements of documentation, process modelling, and solution definition across all delivery.
  • Coach and mentor BAs across platforms and portfolios, lifting capability in best-practice tools, techniques, and analysis discipline.
  • Lead the BA community of practice, facilitating knowledge sharing, peer collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Partner with delivery and platform leaders to assess BA capability gaps and shape development priorities.
  • Drive consistent translation of business demand into clear, actionable scope.
  • Support structured career pathways and mentoring initiatives that strengthen BA retention and engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong experience in business analysis within technology delivery, with demonstrated capability operating in a practice lead, coaching, or capability‑uplift capacity
  • Deep knowledge of BA frameworks and techniques, including BABOK, user stories, process modelling, and UML, with the judgement to apply the right technique to the right context.
  • CBAP, CCBA, or equivalent certification highly regarded, alongside practical experience working within Agile, SAFe, or PRINCE2 environments.
  • Experience defining and embedding BA standards, templates, and ways of working across multiple teams or a broader practice.
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills, with the ability to develop practitioners at varying experience levels and build a sense of community across the BA discipline.
  • Experience designing or contributing to career pathways, mentoring structures, or capability frameworks that support practitioner growth and retention.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to build credibility with both business and technical audiences.
  • A quality-and-consistency mindset - proactively identifying where analysis gaps drive scope creep or rework, and addressing root causes rather than symptoms.
Benefits
  • Our total remuneration is competitive. This is across base salary, a performance incentive, employee share offers and a 25% discount on Fuel for two privately used cars!
  • We are flexible. Many of our teams have embraced hybrid work, balancing time spent remote working, with time spent at an office to connect and work together where it adds value.
  • We value recognition. We have an internal recognition platform amplifying the achievements of those who do great work and demonstrate our capabilities and values.
  • Career development and learning opportunities including LinkedIn Learning and other tailored training solutions.
  • BabyCare Package - financial and flexible support for parents transitioning back to work.
  • Need some wheels? Novated Lease options are available.
  • Invest in your future with the Employee Share Scheme
  • Access to Ampol's Benefits & Recognition platform providing you access to retail discounts and cashbacks at over 500+ retailers in Australia that assist with everyday living expenses
  • Care for your Community. Spend one paid day a year volunteering with one of our Ampol Foundation partners.

We’re an equal opportunity workplace. We not only embrace diversity and inclusion; we celebrate what makes you unique. We welcome applications from people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and diverse sexualities and genders (including if you identify as transgender).
