Job summary

The Central Services team is responsible for the construction, maintenance and care of Council's assets including buildings, roads, drainage, footpaths, traffic facilities, signs, playgrounds, and associated council infrastructure. We currently have a vacancy for an experienced Building Project Officer who will directly manage the delivery phase of assigned construction projects which will range in size and complexity. The successful applicant will directly manage budget, scope, procurement of contractors, oversee the successful delivery of works as per the agreed outcomes and provide ongoing reporting on status.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

  • Relevant degree qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline, combined with extensive experience in a similar building or construction project role.
  • Extensive supervisory experience in an operational, service-delivery environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and engage effectively with contractors, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess issues, identify risks, and develop practical solutions.
  • Knowledge of design and construction processes for building and civil engineering projects, commercial contractual arrangements, NSW building industry legislation, codes of practice, and relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of building construction and maintenance activities, including the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, estimating, programming, and preparing contract documentation for building and construction works.
  • Ability to support pre-construction processes, including feasibility studies, concept development, design review, and documentation.
  • NSW Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
