Job summary

Plexxcon on the Sunshine Coast is hiring a Building Cadet. You’ll work with Project Managers, Contracts Administrators and Site Teams on live projects, gaining hands-on experience from start-up to handover while balancing study commitments.

You'll be mentored by senior staff and learn how to plan, procure, programme and build. This cadetship offers real exposure, not admin, with a clear pathway into Contracts Administration or Project/Site Management.

Qualifications

• Currently studying or recently completed Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Genuine interest in building a long-term career in commercial construction.
• Good attention to detail and proactive communication with teams.
• Able to prioritise, organise tasks and follow through with commitments.

Responsibilities

• Supporting Project Managers and Contracts Administrators across live projects
• Preparing project start-up documentation — safety documents, ITPs, site set-up packs
• Assisting with procurement — scoping packages, raising purchase orders and subcontracts
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and consultant documentation
• Helping track programmes, progress claims and project reporting
• Managing RFIs, submittals and document control
• Attending site visits, site meetings and client meetings
• Coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants on day-to-day delivery
• Learning how projects are handed over — defects, O&M manuals, close-out

WE'RE HIRING Building Cadet

Sunshine Coast, QLD | Full-Time or Part-Time (flexible around study)

This Isn't a Fetch-the-Coffee Cadetship

We're looking for a cadet who actually wants to learn how construction gets delivered.

Not someone waiting to be given a filing job. Someone curious, willing to ask questions, and ready to get involved from day one.

At Plexxcon, you'll work alongside our Project Managers, Contracts Administrators and Site Teams on live projects — learning how a job is planned, procured, programmed and built. You'll be in the thick of delivery, not watching it from a distance. From there you'll grow with clear pathways into Contracts Administration, Project Management or Site Management.

We deliver complex construction projects from $250K to $15M across Southeast Queensland, working inside live operational environments — hospitals, universities, schools, retail centres, sports clubs, industrial facilities and high-end commercial spaces.

Our clients don't stop operating while we build. That means communication matters. Planning matters. Relationships matter. Every decision has an impact.

It's a demanding place to learn. It's also the fastest way to learn properly.

What You'll Get

Real Exposure, Not Admin

You'll work on live projects from start-up through to handover. Programmes, procurement, subcontractor coordination, RFIs, variations, site inspections, progress reporting and client meetings. You'll see how the decisions made in week one show up in week thirty — and why a well-run project feels calm while a poorly-planned one never does.

Time on Site

You'll get out of the office regularly. Walking sites with our Site Managers, watching trades sequence, understanding what's actually achievable versus what looks fine on a programme. You can't learn this part from a textbook.

• Organised, and follows through on what they said they'd do
• Drivers licence
• Industry or site exposure is a bonus, not a requirement
