Job summary

The Kirby Institute, part of UNSW Sydney, invites applications for a Research Fellow (Biostatistician) to lead statistical analysis of national linked health and surveillance data.

This 12-month fixed-term role requires a PhD or equivalent experience, proficiency in STATA/R/SAS/PySpark/Python, and a track record of high-quality research and publications. Join a world‑class team advancing population health research in Australia, with visa‑free work for eligible applicants.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
  • High level skills in relevant statistical packages including STATA, R, SAS, PySpark and Python.
  • Experience in the management and analysis of linked health data, the production of statistical analysis plans and the use of GitHub.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high‑quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Develop and execute advanced data management and statistical analysis methods on large scale surveillance, linked and administrative datasets.
  • Draft and finalise study concept sheets, statistical analysis plans, code, data visualisations, scientific manuscripts and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Design, document, analyze and report linked and surveillance health data research.
  • Statistical analysis of national linked health and social and surveillance datasets.
  • Collaborate with investigators and stakeholders to generate evidence informing research, policy and practice.
  • Publish and present findings to diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to high-quality publications and reports.
