Job summary

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) invites applications for a Software Engineer based in Kensington, Western Australia. This 24-month fixed-term, full-time role focuses on developing, implementing and maintaining WA’s biodiversity data repository and the Dandjoo application.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team, applying Python backend skills, frontend technologies, and DevOps practices to deliver robust, scalable systems in a government context.

Qualifications

• Backend development experience with Python and related libraries (e.g., FastAPI, SQLAlchemy).
• Frontend development experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS.
• Experience with React, Vue, NextJS, Django, Drupal, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure and/or DevOps.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases (Postgres, MongoDB).
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain WA’s biodiversity data repository and Dandjoo app.
• Collaborate with software and data engineers and science officers to meet business objectives.
