Alignerr is seeking a Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training) to help evaluate and improve AI systems trained on advanced biochemical topics. You will design challenging problems across nucleic acids, proteomics, and drug interactions, and craft gold-standard solutions to benchmark AI reasoning.

The role is remote, hourly, and offers flexible hours (10–40 hours/week). PhD-level knowledge in biochemistry or related fields is required, with strong writing and communication skills for

Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

We're looking for PhD-level Biochemists to help evaluate and improve cutting-edge AI systems trained on advanced scientific content. Your expertise will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex topics like protein folding, metabolic flux, enzyme kinetics, and molecular genetics — making a real impact on the future of AI in life sciences.

What You'll Do

• Design advanced biochemistry problems across domains such as nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, and drug-target interactions to rigorously test AI performance
• Author detailed, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as gold-standard benchmarks for AI scientific reasoning
• Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical derivations for technical accuracy and adherence to scientific standards
• Identify reasoning errors — such as incorrect stoichiometry, flawed stereochemistry, or misapplied enzyme kinetics — and provide structured feedback to improve AI outputs
• Work independently and asynchronously on your own schedule

Who You Are

• Holds a PhD (completed or in final stages) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
• Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, or bioinformatics
• Able to communicate highly technical biological and chemical concepts clearly and precisely in written form
• High attention to detail when reviewing complex chemical equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental protocols
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently on task-based assignments
• No prior AI experience required

Nice to Have

• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation systems
• Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
• Experience reviewing or writing scientific literature
