Job summary

RSPCA NSW Hunter Shelter seeks a dedicated Behaviour Trainer to assess and train canines and felines for potential rehoming. You will evaluate temperament, develop enrichment programs, and modify behaviour to improve welfare and rehoming potential.

Responsibilities include observing behaviour, addressing needs, supporting intake, implementing training, and assisting staff with animal management. A driver’s licence and relevant training are required.

Qualifications

• Certificate II in Companion Animal Studies is desirable.
• Willingness to undertake Certificate IV in Behaviour Training.
• Current Class C driver's licence.
• Minimum three months of experience in a similar environment.
• Ability to observe and interpret canine and feline body language.

We are seeking a dedicated individual to assess and improve canine and feline behaviour. This vital role will focus on evaluating animal temperament, developing and implementing enrichment programs, and modifying behaviour for rehoming potential.

Position Requirements:

• Certificate II in Companion Animal Studies is desirable
• Enrolment or willingness to undertake Certificate IV in Behaviour Training
• Current Class C driver's licence
• Minimum three months of experience in a similar environment
• Experience and ability to observe and interpret canine and feline body language including facial expressions vocalisations, and their relationship to emotional states
• Proficiency in fear-free and reward-based training techniques
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• National Police Check and Medical Declaration required
