Life Without Barriers is seeking a Behaviour Support Specialist to coordinate high-quality assessments and therapeutic services for Children & Young People with complex trauma and psychosocial needs. The role includes supervision, reflective practice, and leading implementation of support plans within a flexible hybrid setup in the Dubbo region.

The position is permanent full-time with monthly home visits in Dubbo and mileage reimbursement.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing or related field.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Experience using evidence-based assessment tools with trauma-informed youth.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive person-centred behaviour supports.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and car.

Responsibilities

  • Lead therapeutic assessments and planning through comprehensive assessments and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Develop and support implementation of therapeutic support plans such as Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Provide therapeutic supervision and guidance to support managers with reflective practice.
  • Deliver training on CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models as required.
  • Advocate and lead ethical, evidence-informed therapeutic practice aligned with CARE/TCI models.
  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

About the role

As aBehaviour Support Specialist (known internally as a Therapeutic Specialist), you will coordinate and deliver high-quality assessment, consultive and referral services to support the development for Children & Young People in our care have backgrounds of complex trauma, abuse and/or neglect, and in some cases physical and/or psychosocial disabilities requiring support.

You will also deliver specialist support to our care teams through therapeutic supervision, practice support and leading reflective practice sessions.

This permanent Full-Time opportunity. We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We recognise that out of work commitments vary greatly, therefore the balance between work and office can be negotiated with the successful applicant. We can also offer flexible start and finish times. The successful candidate can be based anywhere in the Western region, however, there is a requirement to conduct home visits in Dubbo once per month. Mileage will be reimbursed.

We welcome applications from candidates who have a background in behaviour support along with psychology, social work or mental health nursing training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead therapeutic assessments and planning through comprehensive assessments and Positive Behaviour Support Plans
  • Develop, review and support implementation of relevant therapeutic support plans, such as Positive Behaviour Support Plans
  • Provide therapeutic expertise and guidance to support managers with reflective practice, and facilitate the development of effective strategies to prevent and respond to pain-based behaviour for young people
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of the CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models to deliver training as required
  • Advocate and lead ethical, evidence-informed therapeutic practice, in alignment with the CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models
  • Proactively engage and collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders
Skills & Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursingor other related discipline.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the professional body relevant to your qualification.
  • Experience using evidence-based assessment tools with young people with trauma informed behaviour.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive person-centred behaviour supports.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and car.
