Job summary

The Navy's Anchorage in Cairns is hiring a Barista / Cafe All-Rounder for the HMAS Cairns cafe team. This casual role offers up to 38 hours per week, with no night shifts and no weekend work.

You will provide excellent coffee and customer service in a fast-paced environment, while supporting food preparation and safety standards. Based in a friendly team, you’ll work on a roster suitable for daytime hours, with the opportunity to learn across cafe functions.

Qualifications

• Experience in a high-volume café, restaurant or fast food outlet.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role.
• Barista, cooking and sandwich hand experience.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Knowledge of food handling and hygiene standards (Food Safety Certificate preferred).
• Experience with POS, EFTPOS and cash handling.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Barista / Cafe All-Rounder, you will contribute to our goal of creating a positive customer experience by providing excellent customer service and amazing coffee. This casual role is based at HMAS Cairns. The role could be rostered up to 38 hours per week, no nights and weekends.

You will be paid under the Fast Food Industry Award.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Consistently creating excellent customer experiences
• Managing the safety and hygiene of your work site and the food you are handling
• Responding to customer queries, requests and concerns

ABOUT YOU

You are someone who gets the job done and you enjoy working in a fast paced, customer focused food and beverage outlet delivering great customer service, again and again.

You understand how this type of business operates and can quickly learn the ropes. You can also recognise how to improve your day to day performance to the benefit of customers and the business.

You are calm and confident under pressure and also know how to have fun and enjoy the work you do. You relate well to others and can work effectively in a team or independently.

To succeed in this role you will need the following skills and attributes:

• Previous experiences working in a high volume café, restaurant or fast food outlet
• A minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role
• Highly developed face to face customer service and communication skills
• Barista, cooking and sandwich hand experience
• Excellent working knowledge of food handling & hygiene standards, preferably with a current Food Safety Certificate
• Experience in the use of POS, EFTPOS and cash handling
• Reliability and ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently and remotely
• A high standard of grooming and presentation as this is a front of house role
• Ability to work early mornings - this is a must!
