Job summary

Tennis Australia is seeking Ballkid Team Leaders to support the Ballkid Program for the Workday Canberra International as part of the Summer of Tennis. This casual role will help manage ballkids, staff and volunteers during trials, training and tournament mode.

You will work with Ballkid Coordinators and the Ballkid Manager across training, operations and event delivery, ensuring a safe, inclusive and high-quality experience for players, staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supervising or leading teams in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong teamwork, organisation, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient and adaptable under pressure.
  • A proactive, positive and reliable approach, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Tennis, tournament or Ballkids program knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in coaching, education or participant development is desirable.
  • Ability to meet minimum availability requirements for Ballkid and staff training, and full availability during the tournament period.
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays and evenings as required.
  • Current Police Check and Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain them.
  • Member Protection Declaration required; First Aid certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with organising and delivering Ballkid Training Sessions, coordinating ballkids, staff and volunteers, supporting daily rosters and briefings.
  • Respond to enquiries, maintaining key communication channels, and assisting with program activities such as inductions, finals squad selection and event briefings.
  • Work collaboratively, exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and contribute positively to tournament success.

Tennis Australia is seeking enthusiastic, organised and reliable Ballkid Team Leaders to support the delivery of the Ballkid Program for the Workday Canberra International as part of the Summer of Tennis. This casual role will assist with the management and day-to-day running of the Ballkids area during trials, training and tournament mode, helping create a safe, inclusive and high-quality experience for players, ballkids, staff, volunteers and stakeholders.

About the role

As a Ballkid Team Leader, you will support the Ballkid Coordinators and Ballkid Manager across training, operations and event delivery. You will assist with organising and delivering Ballkid Training Sessions, coordinating ballkids, staff and volunteers, supporting daily rosters and briefings, responding to enquiries, maintaining key communication channels, and assisting with program activities such as inductions, finals squad selection and event briefings.

Key dates and availability

The role is casual and runs from September 2026 to January 2027.

Staff must be available for a minimum of six days during the trial and training period.

Applicants must be available for the following Ballkid Training and Assessment dates:

  • Saturday 10 October 2026
  • Saturday 24 October 2026
  • Saturday 7 November 2026
  • Saturday 21 November 2026
  • Sunday 22 November 2026
  • Saturday 12 December 2026
  • Sunday 13 December 2026

Please note that while staff are required to be available for a minimum of six training days, this does not necessarily mean you will be rostered to work every session.

The tournament employment period Friday 2 January to Saturday 9 January 2027 , with full availability required during the tournament period. This includes availability to work weekends, public holidays and evenings as required. Dates are subject to slight change.
