Job summary

Informatech invites applications for a Senior Cloud/Azure Infrastructure Engineer to support a Federal Government agency in Canberra. The role offers contract or permanent engagement, with responsibilities spanningAzure and hybrid infrastructure design, security controls, and DR capabilities.

You will lead technical delivery, coordinate with cyber security teams, and mentor junior staff while ensuring systems meet PSPF/ISM/Essential 8 guidelines and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Design and implement secure, scalable solutions across a hybrid technology stack.
• Strong infrastructure engineering across Azure, Entra, virtualization platforms, and backup/recovery tools.
• Experience implementing security controls aligned to PSPF, ISM and Essential 8 frameworks.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-900, AZ-104) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of Azure and hybrid technical solutions as part of a broader program.
• Maintain and monitor Azure and on-premise infrastructure, including patching and performance monitoring.
• Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery capabilities.
• Work with cyber security teams to implement security controls per PSPF, ISM, Essential 8.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff.

We're currently seeking a Senior Cloud/Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join a Federal Government agency in Canberra, delivering a major Digital and Cyber Security Strategy Program. This role is available as either a contract or permanent engagement, depending on what suits you best.

About the role:

Engagement: Contract (12 months + 2 x 12-month extension options) or Permanent

Hours: Up to 40 hours per week

Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance Minimum

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the design and implementation of Azure and hybrid technical solutions as part of a broader technology program
• Maintain and monitor Azure and on-premise infrastructure, including patching, upgrades, performance and availability monitoring
• Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery capabilities
• Work closely with cyber security teams to implement and maintain security controls aligned to frameworks such as PSPF, ISM and Essential 8
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture documents and as-built designs
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge transfer to junior staff

What we're looking for:

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing secure, scalable solutions across a hybrid technology stack
• Strong infrastructure engineering experience across Azure (including Entra), virtualisation platforms (Hyper-V or VMware), infrastructure management/monitoring tools (SCVMM, SCOM), M365 (Copilot, Defender, Purview), Exchange Online, Windows Server, and backup/recovery technologies (Commvault, Veeam)
• Experience implementing and monitoring security controls aligned to industry and government frameworks (PSPF, ISM, Essential 8)
• Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications, such as AZ-900 or AZ-104 (desirable)
