Shield AI is seeking a Senior Manager, Autonomy to lead the in-country team in Melbourne and deploy Hivemind autonomy across unmanned systems. You will drive system architecture, design reviews, risk mitigation, and ensure product quality for defense and commercial programs.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in autonomy/UxS, deep C++ mastery, leadership of 6–20 engineers, and experience with government contracts, GNC, and robotics stacks. English and Mandarin fluency required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of autonomy/UxS industry experience.
• 7+ years delivering software into high-reliability production environments.
• 2+ years managing technical teams.
• Deep proficiency in C++.
• Understanding of GNC (controls, estimation, planning).
• Experience with robotics stack (perception, estimation, planning, controls).
• Experience defining technical scope, ICDs, and system design docs.
• Customer-facing engineering leadership for defense and internal programs.
• Strong communication skills and leadership of 6–20 engineers.
• Fluent English and Mandarin.

Responsabilités

• Lead teams across autonomy, integration, and testing; align technical efforts and drive mission-focused execution.
• Lead a team advancing Hivemind and shaping autonomy architectures.
• Define and assign technical objectives; make engineering decisions and ensure deliverables.
• Provide technical leadership across IRAD initiatives and government defense contracts.
