12-month maternity cover | Part time to full time | Commencing November–December 2026

Bring your assessment expertise to an established, supportive private practice in Shellharbour.

The Shellharbour Clinic is seeking a psychologist with established assessment experience to join our team for a 12-month maternity cover position, with the option to continue part-time beyond the initial term. You’ll provide assessments that help clients understand their strengths, challenges and support needs, with the option to combine assessment work with treatment.

You’ll have autonomy in your clinical work, dedicated administrative support and connection with a team that values high-quality care.

Why Join Us?

The Shellharbour Clinic is a respected psychology practice serving the Illawarra community. We help clients understand their needs and move forward with practical recommendations, with heart, integrity and clinical expertise at the core of our work.

Our values—Excellence, Growth, Enthusiasm, Support, Integrity and Warmth—shape how we care for clients and support one another.

What We Offer
  • Clinical autonomy: manage your assessment work within your expertise, with established resources and collegial support.

  • Assessment tools provided: access to a variety of assessment tools, including iPads for Q-Interactive administration, standardised questionnaires and ADOS-2 materials.

  • Flexible working arrangements: part-time to full-time options, with an agreed workload that includes assessment sessions, scoring, report writing and feedback.

  • Professional development: peer consultation, regular in-house development and an annual CPD allowance.

  • Dedicated administrative support: an experienced administration team, paperless systems and streamlined practice processes.

  • A welcoming workplace: designated mental health days, comfortable consulting rooms and regular opportunities for team connection.

  • Opportunity to continue: an ongoing part-time assessment workload is available beyond the initial 12-month term, with arrangements to be agreed.

About the Role

You will manage assessments from referral review through to clinical interviews, testing, interpretation, report writing and feedback. Your work will inform diagnostic understanding and provide clear, individualised recommendations for clients and their support networks.

Our assessment referrals span the lifespan, from preschool-aged children through to older adults. Depending on your qualifications and expertise, assessment work may include:

  • Autism assessments, including ADOS-2.

  • ADHD assessments.

  • Cognitive and educational assessments.

  • Functional assessments.

  • Neuropsychological assessments.

The assessment mix will reflect your qualifications, training and experience, as well as referral needs.

You’ll also have the option to combine assessment work with therapy, including ongoing treatment for assessment clients where appropriate, or a broader clinical caseload aligned with your interests and expertise. The balance between assessment and therapy will be agreed together.

About You

We’re seeking a clinical neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist with established assessment expertise, sound clinical judgement and the ability to work independently.

You will have:
  • Current registration as a psychologist with AHPRA.

  • Training and experience in conducting autism and ADHD assessments, including formal ADOS-2 training.

  • Experience with digital administration of Wechsler assessment tools using iPads and Q-Interactive.

  • Assessment experience across the lifespan, from preschool-aged children through to older adults.

  • Experience managing the full assessment process, from referral review and clinical interviews through to interpretation, report writing and feedback.

  • Strong diagnostic reasoning and knowledge of DSM-5-TR criteria.

  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.

  • Strong organisation and time-management skills.

  • A commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development.

  • A professional, collaborative approach to working with clients and colleagues.

  • An area of practice endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology or Clinical Psychology.

Working Arrangements

This is a 12-month maternity cover position, commencing around November–December 2026, with part-time to full-time arrangements available.

A November start may allow for a handover with the current clinician before maternity leave begins. An ongoing part-time assessment workload is available following the maternity cover period, with hours and arrangements to be agreed.
