Job summary

Guardian Childcare & Education in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee maintenance, compliance, contractor management and operational performance across a portfolio of sites.

You will lead site inspections, manage contractors, coordinate capital works, and drive continuous improvement to ensure safe, well‑presented environments. This hands-on role requires strong stakeholder engagement, budget awareness, and the ability to travel between sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Facilities Management, Property Management, Building Services, or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of building maintenance, compliance, and contractor management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across a large portfolio.
• Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commercial mindset with experience managing budgets and project costs.
• Confident using systems and reporting tools to track maintenance and project activity.
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections to identify maintenance, presentation, compliance and safety issues.
• Manage contractors and service providers, ensuring quality workmanship and service delivery.
• Oversee maintenance, capital works, and minor works projects from scope through to completion.
• Support compliance initiatives and help resolve operational and facilities-related risks.
• Review contractor performance, reports, and project outcomes.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to prioritise and coordinate facilities activities.
• Provide reporting, recommendations, and solutions to improve facilities operations.
• Participate in an on-call roster to support urgent after-hours maintenance matters.
