Job summary

Serco's Clarence Correctional Centre in NSW seeks a Nurse Practitioner – Mental Health to deliver advanced mental health assessments, treatment and ongoing care to people in custody. This highly autonomous role involves using specialist knowledge to assess complex needs, develop plans, prescribe medications and monitor outcomes.

You will guide the nursing team, collaborate with other health professionals, and work Monday to Friday with hours to be discussed.

Qualifications

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Master of Nursing Practice and Nurse Practitioner endorsement.
• Minimum of 5 years' full-time equivalent experience in mental health nursing.
• Strong mental health assessment, care planning and clinical review experience.
• Advanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong collaborative relationships.
• Experience in correctional health is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and identify patient risks and needs.
• Develop, implement and review individualised mental health care plans.
• Diagnose and manage mental health conditions within your scope of practice.
• Prescribe medications and monitor treatment effectiveness and potential side effects.
• Order and review diagnostic investigations where clinically appropriate.
• Identify changes in patient presentation and implement appropriate interventions.
• Coordinate referrals and work collaboratively with other health professionals.
• Provide clinical leadership, advice and guidance to nursing colleagues.
• Support clinical quality improvement and evidence-based nursing practice.
• Build therapeutic relationships and provide respectful, culturally sensitive care.
