Job summary

Blackbook Recruitment is seeking an Automation Technician for a leading food manufacturing site in Corowa, NSW. The role focuses on keeping highly automated production lines running safely, with close collaboration to maintenance, engineering and production teams.

Key duties include PLC troubleshooting, programming, HMIs, sensors and automated equipment maintenance, plus continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Qualifications

• Requires NSW Electrical License and relevant electrical/automation background.
• Manufacturing or FMCG experience is essential.
• Demonstrated PLC troubleshooting and programming ability.
• Experience with HMIs, VSDs, sensors and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot PLC, automation and control systems to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose electrical/instrumentation faults on automated equipment.
• Support production withBreakdowns and automation-related issues.
• Program and modify PLCs, HMIs and control systems.
• Work with sensors, VSDs, servos and robotics in production lines.
• Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on automation equipment.
• Identify improvements to reliability and reduce downtime.
• Assist with commissioning, upgrades and installation of new gear.
• Collaborate with engineering/maintenance on continuous improvements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure safety compliance.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Automation Technician to join a leading food manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality, innovation and operational excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for an automation-focused technician who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and wants to play a key role in keeping highly automated production lines running safely and efficiently. You will work closely with the maintenance, engineering and production teams to troubleshoot automation issues, minimise downtime and drive continuous improvement across the site.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Troubleshooting and fault-finding PLC, automation and control systems
• Diagnosing electrical and instrumentation faults across automated production equipment
• Supporting production teams with breakdowns and automation-related issues
• Programming and modifying PLCs, HMIs and control systems
• Working with sensors, VSDs, servos, robotics and automated machinery
• Preventative and corrective maintenance of automation equipment
• Identifying opportunities to improve machine reliability and reduce downtime
• Assisting with commissioning, upgrades and installation of new equipment
• Working with engineering and maintenance teams on continuous improvement projects
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and ensuring all work is completed safely and to site standards

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• NSW Electrical License
• Relevant electrical, automation, mechatronics or engineering qualification
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, FMCG or process environment
• Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming experience
• Experience with HMIs, VSDs, sensors and industrial control systems
• Strong electrical fault-finding capability
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
• A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and reliability
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a production environment
