Job summary

Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an Automation Engineer in the Dandenong area to oversee commissioning and design of Substations and Switching Stations. You will design, configure and deliver the automation layer to convert plant signals into actionable control and visibility, with occasional interstate travel and 1–2 days working from home.

You will collaborate with the design team to ensure packages meet client expectations, regulatory requirements and safety standards while supporting

Qualifications

• 5+ years' project delivery experience within the Power Industry delivering SCADA design.
• Qualifications in Electrical Engineering Discipline.
• Leadership and management of design packages.
• Experience in the use of CAD packages such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of HV transmission and distribution components.

Responsibilities

• Deliver design packages that meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure on-time, high-quality outputs with the team.
• Support design manager with reporting, RFIs and variations.
• Contribute to project budgets and monitor costs.
• Undertake commissioning activities for telco testing.

Job description

The opportunity

Join Downer's Power Projects team as an Automation Engineer and make a significant impact overseeing the commissioning and design of Substation and Switching Stations. You are responsible for designing, configuring, and delivering the automation and control layer of the station-essentially turning all plant signals into usable operational control and visibility.

The role will be based out of our Dandenong Office and will require occasional interstate travel. You will have the option to work form home 1-2 days a week.

What you'll do

Deliver design packages so that they comply with and meet expectations from clients, communities, environmental management requirements and other legislative requirements

• Deliver on time and high quality
• Work with team members to deliver packages
• Provide support to the design manager in terms of reporting, RFI's and variations
• Assist with the development of a project budget and monitor and control project costs
• Undertake Commissioning activities for telco testing
• Ensure design is checked thoroughly and follow the Quality Control Process
• Provide expert technical advice to the Project Delivery and wider program teams
• Provide input to reporting on project performance and progress, including development of solutions to issues that compromise attainment of agreed performance targets
• Attend initial planning site visits
• Participate in the SID an Assist in the identification of potential hazardous site activities and ensure appropriate procedures and controls are implemented
• Ensure the consideration of community, environment, operations and maintenance issues are integrated into the selection of preferred options for the project during the planning and design process

What we're looking for

• 5 + years' project delivery experience within the Power Industry delivering SCADA design

• Knowledge of the major components which comprise HV transmission and distribution networks such as transmission lines, transformers, capacitors, reactors, circuit breakers, CTs, VTs and CVTs.
