Job summary

The Department of Education in Queensland seeks a Teacher of the Deaf (Auslan) to plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality learning programs for DHH students. Auslan delivery is used where appropriate to support inclusion and access to the curriculum.

You will assess DHH learners, gather data for personalised adjustments, advocate for Deaf culture, and collaborate with support staff to ensure well-being and successful transitions across year levels.

Qualifications

• A relevant teaching qualification.
• Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland.
• Employment for pre-service/graduate teachers will be subject to the successful completion of a relevant teaching qualification and meeting the minimum requirements as a teacher with the department.
• Working rights in Australia, which means you have, or you are eligible to obtain a valid Australian Visa with work rights.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver quality teaching and learning programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students.
• Develop and deliver in Auslan (where appropriate) DHH programs and report against them.
• Ensure access for DHH students to learning environments that support psycho-social needs and inclusion of Deaf culture.
• Plan accessible assessments that allow DHH students to demonstrate knowledge and skills.
• Use assessments to gather data for personalised adjustments and DHH-specific pedagogy.
