Apply your audiovisual editing expertise in a role that directly supports Victoria's criminal justice system. As an Audio Visual Officer - Editor, you will assess, convert, ingest, edit and prepare audiovisual evidence for use in court and throughout the life of a prosecution matter.

Full-time, fixed-term position.

Working within the Office of Public Prosecutions' Audio Visual team, you will help ensure that audiovisual evidence is accurate, reliable and delivered in court-compatible formats. You will also assist with specialised AV systems and contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's technical workflows and services.

About the role

As an Audio Visual Officer - Editor, you will be responsible for preparing sensitive and often complex audiovisual evidence in accordance with legal instructions, court requirements and established OPP procedures.

You will use professional nonlinear editing and media-processing systems to produce court-compatible audiovisual material while maintaining its accuracy, integrity, confidentiality and traceability. Under direction, you will also assist the Audio Visual Technical Specialist with specialised OPP-AV computing systems and audiovisual equipment in office and court environments.

Key responsibilities

• Evidence preparation: Assess, convert, ingest and edit audiovisual evidence using professional nonlinear editing systems.
• Court-compatible delivery: Produce reliable audiovisual deliverables in approved formats, including DVD-Video and MP4, in accordance with court requirements and OPP procedures.
• Quality assurance: Apply established quality-control, documentation and file-management procedures to preserve the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality and traceability of audiovisual evidence.
• Technical support: Under direction, assist the Audio Visual Technical Specialist with relevant OPP-AV hardware, networked systems, operational software and specialist publishing systems.
• AV setup: Assist with the setup, operation and dismantling of audiovisual systems across the Office and, when required, at court and other locations.
• Continuous improvement: Maintain current knowledge of relevant audiovisual technologies, standards and practices and contribute to improvements in team systems, processes and workflows.

About you

• Professional experience using audiovisual nonlinear editing systems to assess, ingest, convert, edit and deliver audio and video material.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to apply quality-control processes, follow complex instructions and identify technical or evidentiary anomalies.
• The ability to organise your work, respond to changing priorities and meet critical court deadlines in a high-volume operational environment.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide clear technical advice to a broad range of stakeholders.
• A collaborative and adaptable approach, with the capacity to quickly learn specialised systems, procedures and evidentiary workflows.

Experience using AVID Media Composer is highly desirable. Experience with AVID Interplay, Root6 ContentAgent, Rimage publishing systems or comparable specialist systems will also be regarded favourably.

A relevant tertiary qualification in audiovisual technology, screen and media, post-production or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience is desirable.

Exposure to potentially traumatic material

This position routinely involves exposure to confronting and potentially traumatic audiovisual evidence, including material depicting violence, abuse, death and serious offending. Applicants must be able to work with this material professionally, maintain appropriate confidentiality and make use of established supervision, wellbeing and support arrangements.
