Job summary

Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join the Consumer Platform: Entitlements & Offerings squad. You will contribute to paywall and access systems, building scalable microservices with Golang, Node.js, React and TypeScript.

You’ll work in an autonomous Agile team, integrating AI tooling, ensuring high availability and security, and collaborating on architecture while championing modern AI-enabled delivery.

Qualifications

• Academic background or practical exposure building web, mobile, or backend applications.
• Experience using AI coding tools and understanding of agentic workflows and automation.
• Foundational understanding of cloud architecture (AWS or GCP), containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to explain your approach with examples.
• Demonstrated passion for software engineering and modern AI through projects, internships or activities.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance microservices, APIs and user interfaces using Golang, Node.js, React and TypeScript.
• Write clean, maintainable and thoroughly tested code across frontend and backend systems.
• Design, configure and maintain AI agents and agentic pipelines (e.g., coding assistants, automated PR evaluation).
• Integrate AI tools into developer environments to automate system tasks and streamline delivery.
• Maintain high availability, security and low latency across cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes).
• Contribute to architectural discussions and system designs for high-concurrency access control platforms.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold full-stack quality and engineering standards.
• Author project requirements and technical documentation optimized for humans and AI tooling.

Job Description

The Consumer Platform: Entitlements & Offerings team sits at the core of Nine’s subscription, membership and digital monetisation strategies. Built on a cloud-first, event-driven architecture, the team designs and scales high-availability systems that manage user access, digital entitlements, paywalls and product packaging. This infrastructure delivers reliable, secure access across Nine’s main media properties for millions of Australians daily.

As an Associate Software Engineer, you will join an autonomous Agile squad working alongside senior engineers to design and scale Nine’s core paywall and access systems. You’ll contribute directly to production code across our modern full stack while actively participating in our AI-native initiative to automate developer workflows and accelerate delivery.

What you’ll do:

• Build and maintain high-performance microservices, APIs and user interfaces using Golang, Node.js, React and TypeScript.

What you’ll bring:

• Academic background or practical exposure building web, mobile, or backend applications, including Git version control.

• Practical experience using AI coding tools and a basic understanding of agentic workflows and automation.

• Foundational understanding of cloud architecture (AWS or GCP), containersation (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to walk through your technical approach using project or academic examples.

• Demonstrated passion for software engineering and modern AI, shown through personal projects, internships, or community involvement.

• A strong growth mindset with an eagerness to learn new frameworks, tools and engineering patterns.
