Job summary

REA Group Ltd. in Melbourne is seeking an Associate Engineer to contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of software systems within the Content Moderation Platform squad.

You’ll work in an agile cross-functional team reporting to the Engineering Manager, delivering secure, scalable software and participating in the full SDLC. Day-to-day you’ll design features, write clean code, develop automated tests, review peers, monitor production issues and contribute to

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 months’ software development experience in at least one language (Scala, Kotlin or Java).
  • Working knowledge of Agile/Kanban and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Foundational full-stack development skills across front-end, back-end and data-driven systems.
  • Strong fundamentals: coding standards, design principles, version control and automated testing.
  • Good problem-solving, debugging and stakeholder communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement software features, enhancements and bug fixes per specs.
  • Write clean, maintainable, testable code with approved languages/frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests (unit/integration/e2e) for CI/CD.
  • Participate in peer code reviews to ensure quality and performance.
  • Maintain and improve existing applications and services, with defect resolution.
  • Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
  • Follow security, compliance and change management practices.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and development processes.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and collaborate with Product Managers and Designers.
  • Communicate progress, risks and issues clearly and timely.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and apply engineering standards.

What the role is all about

The Associate Engineer roleisresponsible forcontributing to the design, development, testing,deploymentandmaintenanceofsoftware systems. Working within an agile cross-functional team and reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role supports the delivery of secure,scalable,and maintainable software systems. The Associate Engineerparticipatesin the full software development lifecycle, collaborates with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and progressively develops technical capability while contributing to high-quality engineering outcomes. Day to day of the role you’ll be doing:

  • Design, develop and implement software features,enhancementsand bug fixes in line with technical specifications and coding standards.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using approved programming languages and frameworks.
  • Develop andmaintainautomated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) to support continuous integration and delivery.
  • Participate in peer code reviews to ensure quality, performance, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Maintain and improve existing applications and services, including defect resolution and minor refactoring.
  • Assistin monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues tomaintainsystem reliability.
  • Follow security, compliance and change management practices to safeguard systems and data.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including system design,APIsand development processes.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-upsand retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers,Designersand other stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Communicate progress,risksand technical issues in a clear andtimelymanner.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and applyorganisationalengineering standards in daily work.
Who we’re looking for
  • Tertiaryqualificationin Computer Science, Software Engineering, InformationTechnologyora relateddiscipline.
