Edmund Rice Education Australia Flexible Schools Ltd seeks an Assistant Principal to provide leadership across Deception Bay Flexible School, supporting the Head of Campus and managing day-to-day operations. The role requires collaboration, self-direction, curiosity, engagement, open-mindedness and reflective practice.

Qualifications

• Must have tertiary teaching qualifications with eligibility for teacher registration in Queensland.
• Open Driver’s license and willingness to drive school buses.

• Ability to lead learning for disenfranchised young people and to engage in reflective practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of programs for young people at risk.
• Provide leadership support across Deception Bay campus and manage day-to-day operations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position exists to provide leadership support across Deception Bay Flexible School. This leadership role is broad in its scope and encompasses supporting the Head of Campus for the Deception Bay Campus and managing the day-to-day operations. The role works in close cooperation with the Head of Campus and the Area Principal. The successful candidate should be an individual who is:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Tertiary qualifications in Teaching with eligibility for teacher registration with Queensland College of Teachers.
• Open Driver’s license and willingness to drive school buses.
• Demonstrated commitment to the values of Edmund Rice Education Australia.
• The person needs to be able to demonstrate a commitment to building just communities based on the Touchstones of; Inclusive community, Gospel Spirituality, Justice and Solidarity and Liberating Education, which enhance learning and wellbeing for young people.
• Demonstrated leadership of the development and maintenance of programs for young people at risk.
• Substantial knowledge of, and experience in, educational leadership (as identified in the Key Accountabilities).
• The person needs to be able to demonstrate an ability to assist staff in this area and to engage in reflective practice on how to best enhance learning for disenfranchised young people and maintain compliance with regulatory bodies.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to provide leadership in trauma transformative practice and wellbeing support that supports young people to build a learner identity, achieve positive social outcomes, and re-engage in education.
• Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing a range of learning choices and assessments that meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of young people at risk.
• Commitment to and ability to lead a multi-disciplinary community in reflection around working together under four principles of operation: Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty and Participation.
• The principles establish a “common ground” among staff, young people and families, where the means to resolve difference, negotiate learning, recognise rights, responsibilities and consequences are modelled and explored, both within the group and individually.

Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Flexible Schools Ltd currently educates over 2,700 young people in 22 Flexible Learning Schools (12 based in Queensland and 10 other schools across Australia) and two Special Education Services Schools in NSW, with approximately 800 staff nationally. Flexi schools serve young people who experience complex educational, social or psychological situations which demand unique responses.
