Job summary

AECOM in Sydney seeks an experienced Associate Director – Structural Engineer to lead complex building projects within our Building Structures team. You’ll guide end-to-end design delivery, uphold technical quality, and mentor a growing Sydney-based structural group within the National Building Engineering division.

You’ll apply your Chartered Engineer credentials and 15+ years of consultancy experience to shape solutions for health, defence, transport, and commercial sectors, while nurturing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in civil engineering with extensive consultancy experience.
  • Chartership with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong structural design capabilities and knowledge of Australian codes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven track record in leading complex projects and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of complex structural and multi-disciplinary building projects.
  • Oversee design and end-to-end delivery with strong coordination.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships to support pipeline.
  • Provide technical leadership on major projects and mentor staff.
  • Grow Sydney presence within the national Building Engineering group.

Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Associate Director – Structural Engineer to join our Building Structures team in Sydney.

This role offers a rare chance to step into an Associate Director position within our National Building Engineering team, contributing to landmark projects across ANZ while helping to grow and shape our Sydney-based team.

How you’ll make a difference:
  • Lead the delivery of complex structural and multi-disciplinary building projects across sectors including health, defence, transport, commercial, aviation and data centres throughout Australia.
  • Oversee structural design and end-to-end project delivery, ensuring technical quality and strong coordination across the wider AECOM team.
  • Use your local network and strong communication skills to build on existing client relationships, develop new connections and support business development, helping maintain a strong pipeline of structural and major building projects.
  • Provide technical leadership on major and complex projects, bringing your experience to solve challenging design issues and deliver practical outcomes for clients.
  • Lead and mentor the structural team while playing a key role in growing AECOM’s presence and capability in Sydney as part of the national Building Engineering group.
Qualifications
The qualities that help you thrive:
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with (ideally) 15+ years of consultancy experience delivering structural engineering projects in the buildings industry.
  • Chartership with Engineers Australia (CPEng), other registrations highly regarded.
  • Strong technical expertise in structural design, with a thorough understanding of Australian codes, standards and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and stakeholders.
  • Proven competency in project and commercial management, with a track record of successfully leading complex projects.
  • Demonstrated personal drive to excel in the industry and mentor others to achieve high performance.

Please note: Australian citizenship is preferred due to the nature of this role.
