Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support pitch preparation, market updates, pricing analysis, negotiation support and transaction execution.
  • Assist with documentation, credit and underwriting processes, and ongoing management of related risks and exposures.
  • Use AI-enabled and digital tools responsibly to support market analysis, workflow efficiency, presentation development and client materials.
  • Build strong internal and external relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with HSBC colleagues across Asia, the UK, Europe and North America, including Syndicate, Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, Global Financing Solutions, Markets Security Services, and HSBC Infrastructure Finance, to develop client ideas and identify areas of cooperation.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant clients, sectors and market developments.
  • Support the application of new financing products and initiatives, including sustainability, ESG-related financing and digital bond solutions where relevant.
  • Work closely day to day with senior professionals, displaying both proactivity and seeking guidance to bridge knowledge gaps as required.

Join our dynamic Debt Capital Markets team in Sydney, as an Associate within Capital Markets & Advisory, reporting to the Head of Debt Capital Markets Australia and New Zealand. In this role, you will support the origination and execution of global capital markets transactions for Australian and New Zealand clients across Corporate & Institutional Banking.

You will be someone with strong technical and analytical capability in debt markets, with prior bond market and bond pricing experience, a clear interest in client coverage and transaction execution, and the ability to work effectively across a fast-paced, collaborative platform. You will help drive efficiency through the thoughtful use of AI-enabled and digital tools, while maintaining strong judgement, quality and control standards.

You will also gain exposure to a broad range of financing solutions, including conventional debt capital markets activity, ESG-related issuance and the evolving digital bond market, from a position of strength in a globally recognised team.

This is an opportunity to work with some of the bank's most important clients and to develop across a broad set of sophisticated products in a high-performing franchise.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pitch preparation, market updates, pricing analysis, negotiation support and transaction execution activities.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Experience in corporate and institutional banking as an Analyst or Associate, with a sound understanding of financial markets, credit and debt financing. Debt Capital Markets deal exposure is an advantage but not essential.
  • Proven ability to support origination, marketing activity and transaction execution.
  • Strong analytical skills, adaptability, commercial judgement and a proactive working style, coupled with the confidence and curiosity to ask questions to continuously learn and build knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and clients.
  • A genuine focus on quality client service and strong standards of execution.
  • Strong understanding of control standards, compliance and risk management and risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective internal and client relationships across Corporate and Institutional Banking and product partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (ie Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as market data services (ie Bloomberg), with an interest in applying AI-enabled and digital tools thoughtfully to improve efficiency and insight generation.
  • Interest in ESG financing themes and emerging digital bond developments, an advantage.
  • A strong team focus and a work ethic underpinned by an interest and passion for the debt capital markets.
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or a related field in a finance-related discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian or New Zealand PR / Citizenship, or who can demonstrate unrestricted work rights in Australia.
