Job description

2d ago , from Jacobs Solutions Inc - Engineering Services

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

When it comes to environmental consulting, the world is Jacobs’ greatest resource. That is why our clients trust us to help solve their most complex environmental challenges and to realise their opportunities to be industry leaders.

We want you to bring your creativity and collaboration to our business, and we’ll invest to help you grow, pursue, and fulfil what drives you. Together we will deliver extraordinary solutions for a better tomorrow.

Jacobs is building its acoustic capabilities across Australia and New Zealand and we currently have an excellent opportunity for a Senior or Associate Acoustics Consultant to join our team.

You’ll take real ownership of projects from a strong pipeline of work, and have room to grow, technically and as a leader, as we build the acoustics team across ANZ and contribute to our practice globally.

Your main focus will be environmental noise and vibration assessment for major renewable energy, infrastructure and transport projects across Australia, New Zealand and internationally. There are also opportunities to work on building acoustics if that interests you.

In this role, you will:
  • Build and run noise models using SoundPLAN and/or CadnA for road, rail, industrial, energy and construction projects, and own the results.
  • Plan and carry out noise and vibration surveys, with occasional site work.
  • Contribute to our Jacobs culture and participate in our global Community of Practice.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients, regulators and other consultants.
  • Help develop digital tools and smarter workflows that make our work faster and better for clients.
  • Deliver projects end to end (planning, client liaison, technical advice and reporting) with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare clear, defensible technical reports for environmental impact assessments, approvals and construction, and contribute to proposals, fee estimates and tender submissions.
  • Associate level: review the work of others, mentor graduate and junior consultants, and help win new work.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • A degree in acoustics, mechanical, civil or environmental engineering, physics or a related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication: you can explain technical findings clearly to clients, regulators and the community.
  • Approx 5 years (Senior) or approx 8 years (Associate) of recent experience in environmental noise and vibration assessment and control.
  • A practical, get-it-done attitude. You are expected to manage your own workload, meet deadlines and take ownership of outcomes.
  • Solid technical grounding in sound propagation, noise and vibration control, and environmental monitoring.
Nice to have:
  • Experience with wind farm, solar/BESS, data centre or other energy and industrial noise assessments.
  • Building acoustics experience.
  • Scripting or automation skills (e.g. Python, VBA) or GIS experience.
  • Membership of the Australian Acoustical Society (AAS), and for Associate level, professional registration (e.g. CPEng/NER, RPEQ, RPEV) or working towards it.
Why Jacobs?
  • Variety: energy, water, transport and building projects, from early feasibility through to construction.
  • A collaborative team that shares knowledge and backs each other, plus access to Jacobs’ global acoustics network.
  • Flexible and hybrid working.
  • Support for professional development, memberships and registration.
