GenesisCare Cairns is seeking an Assistant Unit Leader to lead and mentor Radiation Therapists, ensuring clinical quality and safety while partnering with Medical Physicists and oncologists to deliver patient-centered care.

This role involves coordinating daily workflows, adopting new technologies, and supporting the Unit Leader in department operations while maintaining a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Recognised Radiation Therapy qualification with AHPRA registration.
• Strong clinical experience in radiation therapy and patient safety requirements.
• Proactive approach to continuous improvement and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, support and mentor Radiation Therapists within the department.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols and safety standards.
• Champion patient safety culture and incident/quality improvement activities.
• Coordinate daily workflows, staffing and resources for safe service delivery.
• Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Pre-Treatment Leaders, Medical Physicists and MDT.
• Support the introduction of new technologies and changes to practice with proper training.

More specifically, you will assist the Unit Leader with the following:

• Lead, support and mentor Radiation Therapists within the department, fostering safe clinical practice, professional development and excellence in patient-centred care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, quality assurance processes and established safety standards.
• Champion a culture of patient safety, clinical accountability and continuous improvement, supporting incident management, quality activities and service improvements.
• Coordinate daily workflows, staffing and resources to ensure safe service delivery, effective patient scheduling and continuity of care, supporting the Unit Leader in operational management of the department.
• Work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Pre-Treatment Leaders, Medical Physicists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Support the introduction of new technologies, treatment techniques and changes to clinical practice, ensuring appropriate training, communication and safe implementation.

We're looking for someone who has:

• A recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy and current registration with AHPRA.
• Strong clinical experience in radiation therapy, with a thorough understanding of pre-treatment and treatment, quality assurance and patient safety requirements.
• A strong commitment to clinical quality, patient safety and best practice, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
• Demonstrated leadership potential or experience, whether through acting opportunities, mentoring colleagues or supporting the coordination of clinical activities.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and collaborate with colleagues across a multidisciplinary team.
• A genuine interest in coaching, mentoring and supporting the professional development of other Radiation Therapists.
