Job summary

GenesisCare Cairns is seeking an Assistant Unit Leader to support the Unit Leader, mentor Radiation Therapists and uphold patient-centred care across pre-treatment and treatment workflows. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, lead daily operations, coordinate staffing and ensure compliance with safety standards while contributing to service improvements and adoption of new technologies.

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy and current registration with AHPRA.
• Strong clinical experience in radiation therapy with QA and patient safety requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership potential or experience, mentoring colleagues or coordinating clinical activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, support and mentor Radiation Therapists within the department, fostering safe clinical practice and patient-centered care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, QA processes and safety standards.
• Champion a culture of patient safety and continuous improvement, supporting incident management and service improvements.
• Coordinate daily workflows, staffing and resources to ensure safe service delivery and continuity of care.
• Work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Pre-Treatment Leaders, Medical Physicists and the multidisciplinary team.
• Support the introduction of new technologies and changes to clinical practice with proper training and communication.

More specifically, you will assist the Unit Leader with the following:

• Lead, support and mentor Radiation Therapists within the department, fostering safe clinical practice, professional development and excellence in patient-centred care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, quality assurance processes and established safety standards.
• Champion a culture of patient safety, clinical accountability and continuous improvement, supporting incident management, quality activities and service improvements.
• Coordinate daily workflows, staffing and resources to ensure safe service delivery, effective patient scheduling and continuity of care, supporting the Unit Leader in operational management of the department.
• Work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Pre-Treatment Leaders, Medical Physicists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Support the introduction of new technologies, treatment techniques and changes to clinical practice, ensuring appropriate training, communication and safe implementation.

We're looking for someone who has:

• A recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy and current registration with AHPRA.
• Strong clinical experience in radiation therapy, with a thorough understanding of pre-treatment and treatment, quality assurance and patient safety requirements.
• A strong commitment to clinical quality, patient safety and best practice, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
• Demonstrated leadership potential or experience, whether through acting opportunities, mentoring colleagues or supporting the coordination of clinical activities.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and collaborate with colleagues across a multidisciplinary team.
• A genuine interest in coaching, mentoring and supporting the professional development of other Radiation Therapists.
