National Heavy Vehicle Regulator – Brisbane QLD

Working as Assistant Technical Officer, you will play a vital role in evaluating and determining Performance Based Standards (PBS) applications, ensuring assessments are accurate, consistent, and aligned with established policy frameworks.

You will provide advice on complex applications and case management matters, contribute to the efficient delivery of approval processes, and support key organisational priorities relating to safety and compliance.

Working closely with industry representatives, customers, and government partners, you will build strong stakeholder relationships while contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of PBS policies and frameworks that drive innovation and enhance road safety outcomes.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

• Review, assess and determine PBS applications, applying the assessment rules and policy frameworks.
• Provide advice to customers about the PBS approval process, vehicle standards and regulatory requirements.
• Deliver exceptional service to external and internal stakeholders and customers via the provision of accurate information in a clear and effective manner and ensure risks are identified and managed.
• Ensure NHVR stakeholders receive accurate PBS advice which leads to cooperative compliance and enforcement regarding vehicle regulations.
• Liaise, negotiate, and effectively communicate with customers.
• Contribute to reviews and projects designed to improve performance and operational integrity of the NHVRs’ PBS scheme.
• Assist the development and continuous improvement of the operation of the PBS scheme and its policies and procedures.
• Contribute to team plans and goals and display high levels of energy, tenacity, and motivation to deliver high-quality core services.
• Ensure confidential information is managed in accordance with relevant legislature and/or corporate policy requirements.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as the national entity responsible for regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. The NHVR minimises the compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistences across state and territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.
