A leading marine attraction on the Sunshine Coast is looking for an Assistant Keeper. This casual position involves assisting with mammal and bird displays, preparing diets, and participating in presentations. Ideal candidates will have skills in public speaking, record keeping, and the ability to swim confidently. A strong background in marine mammal training is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Swim confidently.
  • Successful Blue Card prior to commencement.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in marine mammal training or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Mammals Manager in diverse tasks.
  • Maintain Mammal/Bird displays and behind-the-scenes areas.
  • Prepare animals' diets and participate in animal presentations.

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast team as an Assistant Keeper - Casual.

About the Role

The successful candidate will support the Mammals Manager and have diverse tasks including ensuring Mammal/Bird displays and behind the scenes areas are maintained adequately, preparing animals diets and participation in animal presentations. This role is perfect for someone looking for an opportunity to work with seals and penguins. This role is for a casual position.

About You

In order to be successful in this varied role the ideal candidate will demonstrate these essential and desirable requirements:

Essential

  • Understanding of operant conditioning principles
  • Excellent public speaking and visitor services skills
  • Excellent observation and record keeping skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to swim confidently
  • Successful Blue Card prior to commencement

Desirable

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, psychology, related field or a certificate in captive animal management or similar.
  • Current drivers licence
  • First aid or oxygen resuscitation training
  • At least 2 years’ experience in the marine mammal training field or similar
