Job summary

ALS in Scoresby, Victoria is seeking an Assistant Hydrographer for the environmental monitoring team. The role includes on-the-job training and support to complete a Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography).

You will contribute to routine field data collection, site visits, and data verification alongside a collaborative team. Ideal candidates will have a relevant environmental background, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to work outdoors, including travel.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in environmental science or water resources is desirable.
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Professional oral and written communication.
• Able to work cohesively in a team and independently.
• Willing to travel and spend short periods away from home.
• Able to perform manual handling tasks in outdoor conditions.
• Experience with hand and power tools.
• Current automatic driver's licence and 4WD experience.
• Experience with health, safety and environmental aspects of field work.
• Ability to swim.

Responsibilities

About The Role

The ALS Hydrographics Team in Scoresby, Victoria have a rare opportunity for an Assistant Hydrographer within the environmental monitoring team.

The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training as well as enrolment and support to complete a Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography).

The day to day - responsibilities include:

• Hands on role, with a strong focus on teamwork, reliability and initiative
• Routine visitation and maintenance of remote environmental monitoring sites, consisting mainly of stream flow monitoring stations
• Collect and verify environmental data using various software packages and scientific instruments
• Assistance in completing other project and routine works as required
• Accurate Record keeping including field notes, photographs and maps
• Assisting in the upgrade of old, and installation of new environmental monitoring stations
• Use of a wide range of hand tools including manual excavation for extended periods of time

The essentials - the successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
