Job summary

A leading educational institution in New South Wales is seeking an Assistant Head of Junior School to support the Head of Junior School. This full-time role involves enhancing a positive culture and ensuring excellent teaching practices. Candidates should demonstrate a strong educational background, commitment to student wellbeing, and hold relevant qualifications. The role includes a teaching allocation and starts in January 2026.

Qualifications

  • Manage weekly Junior School events such as student briefings and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Junior School to grow the junior program.

About ACC Singleton

Australian Christian College (ACC) is a protestant non-denominational, Christian Education organisation, whose mission is to develop each and every student to be equipped spiritually, academically, socially and physically to flourish into their full potential, and be a positive influence on the world around them.

ACC is part of Christian Education Ministries, with 17 schools in 5 states, and is also the largest non-government Distance Education provider in Australia.

ACC Singleton (ACCS) is located in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales offering programs from Prep to Year 12. The College has experienced considerable growth in student numbers and improvement in student learning results in recent years. During 2025 work will commence on a new 18 classroom building that will help accommodate the growth in student numbers from 420 to 600 students over the next 5 years.

About the role

Australian Christian College Singleton is in an exciting season of growth. Moving toward maximum enrolment in Junior School over the next 4 years and with plans for a new, state-of-the-art Junior School Building, the school is expanding its leadership structure to support its continued growth.

A new role to the College, the Assistant Head of Junior School will support the Head of Junior School in maintaining a positive culture and excellent teaching practice as the College grows.

ACC Singleton has a clear philosophy of teacher-led Direct Instruction, situated in a knowledge-rich curriculum, and the successful applicant will be expected to support and enhance this approach to student learning.

The Assistant Head of Junior School will collaborate closely with the Head of Junior School to lead in the following areas:

  • Maintaining a positive behaviour culture through managing mid-level behaviour issues.
  • Overseeing curriculum compliance and the implementation of new syllabi.
  • Oversee the Junior School Student Leadership program.
  • Supporting the Head of Junior School in the organisation of key Junior School events.
  • Managing weekly Junior School events such as student briefings and assemblies.

The role will include a 0.6 teaching allocation.

This full-time position will commence in January 2026.

About You
  • Be able to display the capacity to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Be able to receive feedback on your teaching and implement changes.
  • Be supportive of an explicit instruction approach to teaching, based in a knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Be able to effectively plan for, collect and analyse educational data, then devise appropriate strategies and interventions to improve student outcomes.
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent teaching as described by the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Have an active Christian faith, suitable tertiary qualifications and NESA accreditation (or be eligible).
  • Hold a current Employee Working with Children Check.
