eShepherd™, a Gallagher Animal Management business, is accelerating its global growth in AgTech through advanced virtual fencing. We are seeking an Assistant General Manager to partner with the GM, blend strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, and help turn ambitious growth plans into practical outcomes across international markets.

Reporting to the GM of Strategy & New Ventures, you will lead cross-functional initiatives, remove barriers to scale, and translate customer and market insights

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience in growth-oriented, tech-enabled or internationally operating businesses
• Proven track record leading cross-functional initiatives with measurable commercial or operational outcomes
• Strong financial literacy and commercial judgement, including evaluating business cases and investments
• Experience supporting international growth, scalable operating models and organisational change

Responsibilities

• Partner with the GM on growth priorities, market opportunities and investment choices, supported by sound commercial and financial insight
• Lead agreed cross-functional initiatives from definition through implementation, with clear outcomes, milestones and ownership
• Remove barriers to international scale, strengthening operating approaches and helping teams prepare for new markets
• Bringing together customer, market and business insights into clear decision briefs and leadership updates
• Work with leaders to lift performance, build capability and embed sustainable solutions with clear accountability

About The Role

Help turn ambitious growth plans into practical business outcomes. As Assistant General Manager, you’ll be the GM’s key leadership partner across the business, combining strategic thinking, commercial judgement and hands‑on leadership to help the business scale internationally.

Reporting to the General Manager, Strategy & New Ventures, you’ll be a trusted commercial and strategic partner, bringing fresh perspectives, shaping recommendations and taking ownership of agreed business priorities. You’ll have the autonomy to lead delivery, with clear accountability and a close working relationship with the GM.

Working across commercial, product, technology and enabling teams, you’ll resolve complex challenges, strengthen alignment and keep important initiatives moving. You’ll combine strategic advice with direct accountability for delivery.

The role can be based in Hamilton, New Zealand or Melbourne, Australia, working closely with leaders and teams across international markets.

About You

You’re an experienced senior business leader who brings commercial depth, strategic perspective and a track record of delivering through complexity. You can move comfortably from a growth or investment discussion to working alongside teams to solve a practical operational challenge.

You thrive in a close partnership with the GM, bringing independent judgement, offering constructive challenge and supporting shared priorities. You know when to lead, when to collaborate and when to escape, building influence through credibility, discretion and delivery.

Ideally, You’ll Bring

• Significant senior leadership experience in a growth‑oriented, technology‑enabled or internationally operating business
• A proven record of leading complex cross‑functional initiatives with measurable commercial or operational outcomes
• Strong financial literacy and commercial judgement, including evaluating business cases, performance and competing investment priorities
• Experience supporting international growth, scalable operating models and organisational change, with the ability to strengthen leadership capability
• Clear, concise communication and the relationship skills to navigate differing perspectives, create alignment and maintain momentum
• AgTech experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. Experience in SaaS, IoT, connected products or other innovation‑led sectors would also be valuable.
