Job description

Assistant Director, Safety, Security and Resilience
Full-time Permanent

Details: The Cultural Facilities Corporation (CFC) is the ACT Government statutory authority responsible for managing, developing and promoting a diverse portfolio of cultural venues and collections, including the Canberra Theatre Centre, Canberra Museum and Gallery, the Nolan Collection, Lanyon Homestead, Mugga Mugga Cottage, Calthorpes' House and Albert Hall.

Reporting to the Director, People, Culture and Capability, the Assistant Director, Safety, Security and Resilience leads the development and continuous improvement of CFC's work health and safety framework and supports the delivery of protective security, business continuity, emergency preparedness and organisational resilience functions.

As CFC enters a period of significant growth and transformation, including preparation for the operation of the new Lyric Theatre, this position will play a key role in strengthening the systems, policies and practices required to support safe, secure and sustainable operations in a larger and more complex operating environment. The role will work closely with the Executive Director, Canberra Theatre Centre, senior leaders and project teams to embed effective safety, security, resilience and compliance arrangements across the organisation.

The position provides expert advice on WHS legislation, incident management and risk mitigation; coordinates inspections, audits, investigations and corrective actions; develops safety training and awareness initiatives; and supports managers to meet their legislative obligations and foster a positive safety culture.

The Assistant Director also coordinates protective security activities on behalf of the Agency Security Advisor, including security risk assessments, personnel and physical security requirements, information security awareness and compliance with ACT Government protective security obligations. The role leads the development, maintenance and testing of business continuity, disaster recovery and emergency response arrangements and works closely with the Director, Governance, Audit and Risk to support organisational risk management, audit, assurance and compliance activities.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience across work health and safety, organisational resilience, risk management, protective security, emergency management or related disciplines. They will have strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, sound judgement and the ability to translate legislative and policy requirements into practical systems and advice. Experience developing organisational frameworks, promoting a positive safety culture and supporting safe, secure and compliant operating environments will be highly regarded.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Risk Management, Governance, Security, Emergency Management or a related discipline are desirable. Knowledge of ACT Government protective security requirements would also be highly regarded.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
