Job description

Details:

ACT Leave is the Statutory Authority responsible for administering portable long service leave schemes in the ACT. We are a small, purpose-driven organisation with a big remit.

Our values of Responsive, Approachable, Reliable, Transparent and Informed are not just words on our website, they shape how we work with each other and with the clients and industries we serve.

ACT Leave is growing into its next chapter. That means the systems, standards and culture we build over the next couple of years are the ones we will run on for the next decade. If you want a seat at that table, this is the kind of opportunity you want to apply for.

About the role:

Step into finance leadership role and manage the numbers that keep a statutory authority operating smoothly.

As Assistant Director, Finance, you will run the day-to-day of ACT Leave's finance function including budgeting, reporting, reconciliation and the systems behind them. You will have opportunities to step in for the Director, Finance when needed. This is a role with scope to lead people as well as work on the numbers. Your work will be visible and feed into Board and Executive Team decision-making.

You will:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance Team.
  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and coordinate the annual financial audit process.
  • Contribute directly to Board and Audit and Risk Committee papers on financial performance and risk.
  • Lead and develop finance officers with an opportunity to shape how the team operates.
  • Step in for the Director, Finance during periods of absence.
About you:
  • Solid experience in financial management including budgeting, statutory reporting, financial risk, ideally in government or a regulated environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and comfortable with the standards that come with it.
  • Experience supervising or leading a small team, or ready to take that step.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills where you can turn financial data into advice people can act on.
  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance or commerce, with CPA or CA completed or underway.
  • See how you impact and influence immediately. Your advice and recommendations will help the Executive Team, Chief Executive Officer and Board make decisions without the need to work through layers of sign-off.
  • The chance to help build something. There's real opportunity to contribute to how ACT Leave's finance function operates.
  • Work with an Executive and Leadership team that will know your name and back your career goals.
  • Flexible working arrangements are available
  • Competitive ACT Government remuneration, leave and superannuation conditions.
  • Investment in your development with training and career pathways tailored to your professional goals.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Highly Desirable:
  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce or related discipline.
  • Membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or an equivalent, recognised professional accounting membership.
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated experience working within or alongside government, statutory authorities or regulatory bodies.
Notes:

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
