Job summary

Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is seeking an EL1 Data Analyst to lead qualitative and quantitative analysis of regional jobs and skills issues, supervising staff and engaging with stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director, the EL1 Data Analyst will provide technical direction, develop analytical outputs, and respond to ad-hoc requests while building credible, publication-ready insights for policy and program delivery from the Jobs and Skills Australia initiative.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in an analytical discipline such as economics, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field - Essential.

Responsibilities

• Leading the design, delivery and quality assurance of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, ensuring methods are robust and insights are suitable for reporting.
• Overseeing the preparation of analytical outputs, data tables and supporting material to create compelling narratives, with publication-ready results.
• Providing technical direction to support reporting, dissemination and policy use, collaborating with stakeholders and technical specialists to resolve complex analytical issues.
• Communicating analytical outputs and findings through presentations and forums, engaging with stakeholders as product users and data custodians.
• Providing leadership in a collaborative team environment, including coaching and supervising staff.

Education

The Role

The Workforce Futures branch in JSA supports employment, education and training policy objectives and the resolution of workforce challenges through extensive analysis of the Australian labour market and skills system. The branch also looks to fill evidence gaps and provide data, analysis, research and advice to strengthen inclusive participation in the labour market and skills system, particularly for people who experience disadvantage or face barriers to participation.

The Regional Workforce Assessment team in the Workforce Futures branch supports government and stakeholders with integrated analysis and advice on the jobs and skills system across regional Australia.

The team develops and maintains a suite of regional data tools and products to support timely analysis at the regional level and enable progress towards enhancing the jobs and skills system across regional Australia, including:

• JSA Jobs and Skills Regional Framework for Regional Australia
• Employment Region dashboards and In-Depth Profiles (utilised in the Local Jobs Program)
• Regional Labour Market Indicator of labour market strength by region (including subsequent advice on labour market conditions by region)
• Labour Market Search and Matching Model by Region

• Overseeing the preparation of analytical outputs, data tables and supporting material, to create compelling narratives, ensuring results are accurate, reproducible and publication ready.
• Providing technical advice and direction to support reporting, dissemination and policy use, working collaboratively with stakeholders and technical specialists to resolve complex analytical issues.
• Effectively communicating analytical outputs and findings through presentations and forums, as well as liaising with stakeholders as product users and data custodians,
• Providing leadership in a collaborative team environment, including developing, coaching and supervising staff.
