The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) plays a crucial role as a key agency within the Northern Territory Government, offering specialised financial, economic, and commercial advice.

Similarly, the Utilities Commission, an independent statutory authority, focuses on the economic regulation of electricity, ports, and water and sewerage industries in the Northern Territory. With a primary purpose of protecting the long-term interests of Territory consumers of services provided by regulated industries in terms of pricing, reliability, and quality, the Commission benefits from support staff seconded from the DTF.

Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Director (SAO1), leading and managing research and critical analysis of economic regulation across various utility industries and providing high-quality advice is key. Your responsibilities involve leading and managing the planning and execution of major reviews and multifaceted projects, developing and delivering precise, evidence-based solutions and providing advice to the Commission and stakeholders on complex and straightforward issues.

This role will make good use of your ability to research, critically analyse complex information or data, and provide high quality advice on complex economic, compliance, regulatory or legal matters. Your strong interpersonal skills will be applied as you engage with Commissioners, senior level stakeholders and members of the public, and your proven leadership will assist in managing and developing other team members.

Requirements

Applicants with tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, law, public policy or administration, and a background in the regulation of essential services or utilities will be highly regarded.
