Job summary

The Kids' Cancer Project is seeking an Assistant Accountant in Sydney’s Alexandria area with hybrid work options. You’ll manage accounts payable, receivable, payroll and month-end tasks, while supporting BAS and audits under the CFO’s guidance.

Ideal candidates are systems-savvy, detail-focused and eager to improve processes with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central integration and other common software in use. This role offers growth into management reporting.

Qualifications

• Accounting qualification in progress, recently completed, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with accounting software such as Business Central, Dynamics 365, Xero, QuickBooks or similar.
• Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high transaction volumes.
• Confident communication skills and willingness to ask questions.
• Curious mindset and interest in process improvement and new technologies.
• Strong written skills to create process and procedure documentation.
• Intermediate Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• End to end accounts payable processing and supplier payments.
• Accounts receivable management, invoicing and debtor follow up.
• Fortnightly payroll processing for ~23 employees using Employment Hero.
• Daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
• General ledger reconciliations and journal processing.
• BAS preparation for CFO review.
• Support month end close activities and financial reporting.
• Assist with annual audit requirements.
• Work with Systems Accountant to improve processes and maximise Dynamics 365 BC benefits.
• Prepare and maintain finance procedures and process documentation.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and technology adoption.

Assistant Accountant - The Kids' Cancer Project
Alexandria, Sydney | Hybrid Work

With approximately $10 million in annual fundraising income, they partner with researchers, corporates and the wider community to support breakthroughs in childhood cancer treatment.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, you’ll take ownership of the day to day finance operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll while supporting month end, BAS preparation and audit activities. This is a highly visible role where you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the organisation including fundraising, corporate partnerships, marketing and communications, IT and senior leadership.

This role would suit a proactive and systems savvy finance professional who enjoys transactional accounting but is also keen to contribute ideas around process improvement, technology and automation.

For the right person, there is genuine opportunity to broaden your responsibilities over time and gain exposure to management reporting, board reporting and commercial finance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• End to end accounts payable processing and supplier payments
• Accounts receivable management, invoicing and debtor follow up

About You

• Accounting qualification in progress, recently completed, or equivalent experience
